HHS grants support healthcare disaster readiness
The Department of Health and Human Services has awarded more than $840 million in grants to public health and healthcare systems for emergency preparedness.
The grant funds are distributed through two federal preparedness programs: the Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) and the Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP).
Administered by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, HPP funding supports the building of community healthcare coalitions that collaborate on emergency planning and, during disasters, share resources and partner to meet the health and medical needs of their community.
HPP and PHEP funding helps recipients build and sustain public health and healthcare preparedness capabilities, which include establishment of core capabilities, such as medical surge, information sharing and emergency operations.
This marks the third year that HPP and PHEP are awarding funds jointly. Learn more about the programs here.
