GEs healthyimagination turns one, with $700M in R&D
General Electric has released the inaugural annual report for healthymagination, its business strategy for sustainable healthcare, which detailed the milestones since its May 2009 kickoff, including the 24 products and services launched and a $700 million investment in research & development (R&D).
Under this initiative, the company has recorded these investments and commitments for its year-one progress:

- $700 million in R&D toward healthymagination portfolio;
- $250 million in an equity fund focused on growing healthcare technology companies;
- Increased its healthymagination portfolio to 24 product innovations, with target of 100 by 2015, including the handheld Vscan ultrasound and Brivo CT;
- Pledged $350 million through the Stimulus Simplicity financing program and the healthymagination Fund;
- Partnered with Intel and the Mayo Clinic for a year-long study evaluating the benefits of remote monitoring devices for home-based patient care;
- Launched Developing Health, a three-year $25 million program providing grant funding and volunteer support to non-profit health centers in the U.S.;
- Joined with Eli Lilly to develop technology for smarter cancer therapies; and
- Launched HealthAhead, an employee wellness and site certification program.
