FDA clears Abbott's wireless point-of-care test
Abbott has received clearance from the FDA to begin marketing i-STAT 1 Wireless, a wireless version of the company's point-of-care testing system.
The wireless system will enable real-time transmission of diagnostic test results generated by i-STAT 1 directly from the patient bedside, the Princeton, N.J.-based pharmaceutical company stated. Sharing test results via a hospital's wireless network, caregivers will have more rapid access to information, Abbott added.
The i-STAT 1 Wireless handheld is certified for compatibility with existing wireless networks and is compatible with point-of-care data management systems used with earlier versions of the i-STAT System, Abbott said.
