California Medicare recipients expected to grow by 131% in 20 years
The percentage of Medicare recipients in California will increase with the state’s elderly population, and is expected to more than double between 2000 and 2030, according to a report from California Healthcare Foundation.
In 2000, 3.6 million people aged 65 years or older accounted for 11 percent of California’s state population, the report stated. According to the Oakland, Calif.-based organization, that projection is expected to increase to 8.3 million (18 percent of state population) in 2030 as the elderly population in the state is anticipated to grow 131 percent; compared to 104 percent for the U.S. as a whole.
