Baptist names Davis as first CMIO

Baptist Health System (BHS) in Birmingham, Ala., has named John Christopher Davis, MD, as the organization’s first CMIO. In this position, Davis will provide leadership in the continuing development and advancement of clinical systems and technology for the system’s four hospitals.

Davis will play a role "to fully implement and transition to EMRs with our new Epic system,” said Elizabeth C. Ennis, MD, chief medical officer and vice president, medical education and research for BHS. Davis will focus on Epic’s implementation and quality, safety and system usability.

Before coming to BHS, Davis served as physician informaticist before being named the inpatient chief medical officer at Sisters of Mercy Health System in St. Louis, Mo. During his six-year tenure, he participated in the design, building and implementation of an Epic EMR for the system, which involved 18 hospitals in four states.
