App gets to know patients with depression to fill gaps in treatment

People suffering with depression often don’t have anyone to confide in. A new mobile application, called Woebot, developed by Stanford University psychologist Alison Darcy, aims to be an encouraging and helpful partner that can be reached at the push of a button.

By analyzing and collecting personalized data, the app is able to effectively offer support in regard to individual feelings. Darcy hopes the app can fill in gaps in current treatment plans by offering early interventions by acting like a coach to users who may not be able to visits a counselor.
