App aims to put healthy nutrition in the palm of your hand

In a world surrounded by fast food, high calories and expanding waistbands, healthy eating seems to be that much more difficult. One app aims to make nutritional decisions easier.  Health Places, an app capable of finding farmer's markets, wellness centers and healthy dining options, is now available in South Florida.

Covering Broward, West Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties, Healthy Places is able to show people healthy food and wellness options in their area. As a hybrid of popular apps like Google Maps and Yelp, it can search for healthy food and activity options by category. Customers also can leave star-rated reviews telling others about past experiences. This app includes filters for specific dietary options such as organic, local, gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, raw and GMO-free.

"We want to make it easy for people to be healthy," said Nina Anderson, founder of Healthy Places. "It should not be a mission to find a healthy place to dine-out or a farmer's market to buy fresh, local produce. These Healthy Places listings are being put straight into the hands of their direct target market. I started Healthy Places to help people stay healthy, but also to help these businesses stay in business."
