Abbott introduces additional features to diabetes management app

Abbott has announced the release of its FreeStyle LibreLink application in Europe. The implementation of new features allows users to access glucose data directly from their smartphone.

The updates to the FreeStyle app eliminate the need for users to carry the additional FreeStyle Libre reader. The updates also give users the ability to receive glucose data by utilizing the phone's near-field communication (NFC) to pick up the sensor's data. Compatible with Android and iPhones, the app presents data on real-time glucose levels, eight-hour glucose history and how glucose levels are changing. Additionally, users are able to enter notes to track food, insulin, medication and exercise.  

Further features added to the app include a larger high-resolution display, text-to-speech for glucose readings, recording smaller doses of insulin and support for 26 languages. Users also will have the ability to share data with providers through the secure, cloud-based diabetes management system LibreView and LibreLinkUp.
