SNMMI: GE rolls out mid-tier SPECT/CT scanner
MIAMI—GE Healthcare unveiled a new mid-tier SPECT/CT scanner, the Optima NM/CT 640, at the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) annual meeting.
This new addition to the Nuclear Medicine 600 series utilizes the SPECT technology found in the Discovery NM630, with a new four-slice non-diagnostic CT and attenuation correction. The CT component is available in 2.5 mm and 5 mm slice thicknesses, rotation speed of one time per second and offers radiation dose of 1 to 2 mSv for a 40cm abdomen CT scan, according to the company.
The Optima NM/CT 640 can be upgraded onsite from a Discovery NM630 SPECT-only system, and may be upgraded to a 16 slice NM/CT 670. The 640 has a footprint of 5.7 mm x 3.6 mm and can accommodate various patient sizes with a 28-inch wide bore and 500-pound table capacity. The system was submitted for FDA clearance in April.
