New app available: data breach tool
The North Carolina Healthcare Information and Communications Alliance (NCHICA) has teamed with Oak Grove Technologies to produce a mobile application version of the HITECH Act Breach Notification Risk Assessment Tool, originally developed by the NCHICA Privacy and Security Officials Workgroup.
The NCHICA Breach Reference Application is a tool designed to help providers make preliminary assessments of potential privacy breaches of protected health information in accordance with HIPAA and the HITECH Act.
Staff and IT security professionals can use the app to assess whether a data breach has occurred and provides a “total risk score” for any potential data breach. The tool walks users through action steps required under the HITECH Act, and allows them to alert other staff members of a potential breach to determine whether an investigation is warranted.
The app is available for download on iTunes for $1.99.
