Brad Smith rumored as new leader of CMS Innovation Center

Brad Smith is the rumored new leader of CMS’ innovation center, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI), Politico reported.

Smith would take the reins after former director Adam Boehler left his role to become Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) – a new U.S. Government agency. He was confirmed to the new role by the U.S. Senate in September 2019.

Politico cited three sources, noting that CMS declined to comment that Smith was the next director. CMS career staffer Amy Bassano has been acting director of CMMI since Boehler’s departure. Smith was a co-founder of palliative care company Aspire Health, which was sold for an estimated $440 million to Anthem last year.
