Trump will hold meeting on vaping
President Trump plans to hold a meeting with officials from the e-cigarette industry and medical field amid an epidemic of vaping-related illnesses and deaths, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Trump previously announced a plan to ban non-tobacco flavored e-cigarette products in September over the epidemic of vaping injuries. As of Nov. 8, more than 2,000 people have been diagnosed with the illness, e-cigarette, or vaping, product use associated lung injury (EVALI), and 39 deaths have been reported.
However, Trump walked back on its planned ban, according to recent November reports. The administration also made an exception for menthol flavors in its plan.
The meeting with officials will include a group of advocacy, industry, non-profits, medical associations and state officials, the WSJ reported. Among the policy considerations is raising the minimum purchasing age from 18 to 21, which is supported by e-cigarette company Juul.
