HHS has appointed Christopher Wlaschin, a retired Navy commander, as its new chief information security officer.

Wlaschin, who retired after 28 years in the Navy in 2008, began his HHS position on Jan. 9, reports CyberScoop. According to Wlaschins’ LinkedIn page, he will lead cyber-security programs to develop HHS’s goal to offer a secure online environment.

“As a member of the U.S. government’s Senior Executive Service … Wlaschin will lead the cybersecurity program across HHS, with a goal to foster an enterprise-wide secure and trusted environment in support of HHS’ commitment to better health and well-being of the American people,” said HHS in a statement.
