Overview of the King v. Burwell Supreme Court case
With the Supreme Court hearing oral arguments in the King v. Burwell case on March 4, the Washington Post reports the case is the biggest challenge to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in three years.
In June 2012, the Supreme Court ruled the individual mandate was legal and held up the ACA’s provision that most people would have to purchase insurance or be fined. In the King v. Burwell case, the justices will determine if the federal government can provide subsidies to help offset the costs of insurance for nearly 8 million people.
