ONC platform seeks public input on health IT strategic planning

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) is seeking public input as it sets out to update its Federal Health IT Strategic Plan. ONC announced that from March 25 to May 9, it is open to receiving comments on its new web platform, Planning Room, which it launched in collaboration with Cornell University.

Planning Room is part of Cornell University’s eRulemaking Initiative, an academic research group working with federal agencies to enhance public participation in government decision-making, according to the announcement. Federal agencies use the platform to solicit comment and discussion that ultimately shape their final plans.

ONC initially is seeking comments and discussion on consumer eHealth, with topics including: enabling information access, identifying useful health information, decreasing health disparities through health IT, empowering consumer action, patient generated health data, supporting ‘personalized health care’, shifting attitudes, supporting shared decision-making through health IT, supporting new healthcare delivery models and using health IT to enable research and inform practice.
