Nearly 11.7 million people sign up for coverage through health insurance marketplace
As of Feb. 22, nearly 11.7 million people enrolled in the health insurance marketplace, including 8.84 million in states using the HealthCare.gov website, according to data from the Department of Health and Human Services.
Of the enrollees, more than 4.1 million were under the age of 35 and nearly 3.3 million were from 18 to 34 years of age.
The report did not include information on the number of people who paid their first month’s health plan premium.
In the 37 states that use Healthcare.gov, 87 percent of the people qualified for a tax credit, which averaged $263 per month. After accounting for the tax credits, 55 percent of people in those states paid $100 or less per month.
In addition, 53 percent of the enrollees in the states that use Healthcare.gov did not purchase coverage through the marketplace as of November 2014.
From March 15 to April 15, people in the 37 states using Healthcare.gov will be able to purchase insurance to avoid having to pay a penalty for not having coverage in 2015.
