Mitchell named new director of AAFP Center for Health IT

The American Academy of  Family Physicians (AAFP) appointed Jason Mitchell, MD, to lead its Center for Health IT. In his new role as the center’s director, Mitchell will apply his technical skills and understanding of healthcare to facilitating health IT adoption among AAFP members and promoting the value of health IT to a broader audience.

Since 2007, Mitchell has served as assistant director of the center, which was established to assist providers navigate federal programs, like Meaningful Use, targeted towards health IT and implementing health IT tools, such as EHRs, according to a Jan. 10 statement. Mitchell is also a member of the American Medical Informatics Association, a member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and practices medicine at the Shared Care Free Clinic of Jackson County in Independence, Mo.
