Hospitals, doctors delaying price transparency law in Ohio
Ohio passed a law requiring “good faith” estimates from providers to patients on the cost of elective procedures two years ago, but opposition from the state’s hospital and physician groups has keep the law from being implemented.
As Kaiser Health News reports, groups like the Ohio Hospital Association have successfully stalled the law with a court injunction, arguing coming up with estimates would delay patient care. The law’s sponsor, Ohio State Rep. Jim Butler, says their real motivation has nothing to with concerns about patients.
“The health care industry has a lot of political power and lots of money. It’s hard to fight on behalf of people against this kind of force,” he said.
