FDA looks to speed device approval with new partnership

The FDA is entering a public-private partnership with the Medical Device Innovation Consortium (MDIC) to help speed the development, assessment and review of new medical devices.

MDIC, a nonprofit created by the trade association LifeScience Alley, will act as an industry arbiter to prioritize regulatory science needs of the medical device community for the allocation of human resources and funding, according to a Dec. 3 statement. The FDA will collaborate with MDIC on various research projects with the hopes of reducing the cost and time it takes for devices to come to market.
