FCC adds director of healthcare initiatives

The FCC has tapped Matthew Quinn, MBA, to serve as the agency’s director of healthcare initiatives, according to an announcement.

In this role, Quinn will coordinate and promote communications technologies and services, facilitate availability of medical devices that use spectrum, and ensure hospitals and other providers have connectivity. Quinn also will advise the agency on health matters, play a role in revamping the Rural Health Care program, and coordinate with the Food and Drug Administrator, the National Institutes of Health and industry to bring about effective FCC programs related to healthcare technology.

Quinn most recently worked at National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Prior positions include program management lead for the National Resource Center for Health IT, lead staff for the quality subcommittee of the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics and co-chair of the assistive technology subcommittee of the Interagency Committee for Disability Research.

Quinn earned a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point and an MBA from Colorado State University.
