Cleveland Clinic executive considered for VA top job

After a controversy of excessive wait times and IT struggles at the Department of Veterans Affairs spurred the resignation of Eric Shinseki, the White House now is considering a high profile hospital executive from Cleveland Clinic to take over the beleaguered agency, reports the Wall Street Journal.

The White House currently is considering nominating Delos “Toby” Cosgrove, MD, CEO and president of the Cleveland Clinic, to take the helm of the VA. Sources told the newspaper that he is seriously considering pursuing the position.

Cosgrove previously served as a surgeon in the U.S. Air Force and served in Da Nang, Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Republic of Vietnam Commendation Medal.
