Blue Shield of California enters accountable care agreement

Blue Shield of California will enter a partnership with Dominican Hospital and Physicians Medical Group of Santa Cruz County on a three-year accountable care initiative.

The initiative is seeking to provide care to approximately 8,000 Blue Shield health maintenance organization members, including 5,200 members of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System.  

The partnership with the two Santa Cruz, Calif.-based healthcare organizations represent Blue Shield’s eighth venture into commercial accountable care organizations. Affected members are expected to see no increase in insurance costs over the first year of the collaboration and a small increase in the subsequent two years, according to the payer.
