Arizona, Southeast US will feel greatest impact from ACA exits
The effects of major insurers like UnitedHealth, Humana, and most recently, Aetna, departing from some state health insurance exchanges will depend largely on where consumers live.
Phil Galewitz of Kasier Health News writes customers on Affordable Care Act’s insurance marketplaces in more populated areas across the country will still have multiple insurers offering coverage. For those in Arizona, North and South Carolina, Georgia and parts of Florida, however, their options may be limited to only one or two insurers when open enrollment begins Nov. 15.
“The effect on consumers is going to be mixed around the country,” said Katherine Hempstead, a senior adviser at the nonpartisan Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. “Most of these marketplaces are not dependent on” the large national carriers.
