AMDIS: Flux for all CMIOs

CMIOs should be prepared for career flux, according to the speakers of a session at the AMDIS 22nd Annual Physician-Computer Connection Symposium in Ojai, Calif.

William F. Bria, MD, AMDIS president; Richard Gibson, MD, chief, Healthcare Intelligence at Providence Health Services; and Hillary Ross, consultant, IT Practice, Witt/Kieffer were the participants. They said that no CMIO's position is safe but recommended several steps a CMIO can take if he or she becomes displaced. They included networking, assessing your skills, gaps and marketability, honing your business and operations acumen, appreciating what’s happening in healthcare and seeking valuable counsel from trusted sources.
