Humana to acquire Inclusa, expand managed care presence

Humana announced its plans to acquire a managed care organization (MCO), Wisconsin-based Inclusa.

The move expands Humana’s Medicaid managed care services. Inclusa provides long-term care services and support to roughly 16,000 seniors and adults with disabilities in Wisconsin’s Family Care program. Inclusa, which has partnered with local healthcare providers and community resources over the past 20 years, helps eligible seniors and adults with disabilities live more independently. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Humana’s acquisition follows its purchase of iCare, a Wisconsin healthcare company it acquired in 2020. By acquiring Inclusa, Humana also expands its reach in the state. Humana currently reaches 1 million Medicaid members across Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, South Carolina and Wisconsin. The healthcare company also recently gained contracts in Ohio and Louisiana.

“For decades, Humana has been focused on improving the health and wellbeing of the people of Wisconsin and we are pleased to expand both our geographic presence and the scope of services we can offer through the acquisition of Inclusa,” John Barger, Humana Medicaid president, said in a statement. “The long-term care services delivered by Inclusa and their contracted providers under Wisconsin’s Family Care program provide important assistance for eligible individuals that value their member-centered care model.”

Inclusa’s MCO network includes 6,000 service providers in about 40 service areas. The MCO is contracted through the state of Wisconsin and permitted through the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance to provide Family Care services and support in 68 out of 72 counties in the state.

The deal is subject to customary closing conditions, including state regulatory filings.
