Insurance startup Oscar hires CCO from Advisory Board

Oscar Insurance, a startup insurer specializing in narrow network plans offered on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) exchanges, has hired Dennis Weaver, MD, MBA, as its new chief clinical officer (CCO).

As Bloomberg reports, Weaver was previously chief medical officer (CMO) at health consultant Advisory Board. Past roles include president and CEO of EastPoint Health in Overland Park, Kan. and associate CMO and Medicare coordinator at Minnesota-based TriCare.

“Dennis’s extensive experience working with providers and health systems helping them transition to population health more aggressively will also be instrumental as we look to expand and partner closely with health systems,” Oscar CEO Mario Schlosser said.

Weaver leaves Advisory Board as the company’s healthcare division is rumored to be up for sale, potentially fetching $1.5 billion.
