Hospital shooting leaves two dead, including police officer responding to a domestic violence call

Two individuals are dead, including a police officer, after a shooting that occurred inside an Indiana hospital early Monday morning, multiple news outlets are reporting.

The incident occurred inside the emergency department at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City, where Sergeant Heather Glenn was responding to a potential domestic violence call.

The female victim who made the call reportedly presented to the hospital for injuries from an alleged dispute between herself and 34-year-old Sean Hubert of Tell City. When she warned hospital staff that Hubert was on his way to the hospital, authorities were alerted and officers from multiple police departments responded, according to Indiana state police.

When Glenn attempted to arrest Hubert, a struggle ensued. Glenn discharged an electronic weapon to subdue Hubert, but it was ineffective. When Hubert pulled out a firearm during the struggle, Glenn was fatally shot.

Officers with the Tell City Police Department and Cannelton Police Department returned fire, shooting Hubert, who is reported to have died from his injuries on the scene. Officers involved in the incident were reportedly not aware that Hubert was armed when Glenn attempted to arrest him.

Glenn was a nearly 20-year veteran of the Tell City Police Department and the Perry County Sheriff’s Office.

In a release from Indiana State Police, Tell City Police Chief Derrick Lawalin shared the Glenn “was a well-respected officer and pillar in her community.”

“Our police department suffered a tremendous loss,” Lawalin said. “We lost a dear colleague, a dear friend. Sgt. Glenn—she’s a cornerstone of our department.”

Investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
