21 states have no hospitals on Leapfrog Group’s 2016 award lists
The Leapfrog Group has named the recipients of its 2016 Top Hospital awards for children’s, rural, teaching and general hospitals.
The lists are based on results from Leapfrog’s own hospital survey, including scores on quality, surgical outcomes, maternity care and leadership. Results from Leapfrog’s fall safety grades survey were also included.
"We set the toughest standards in the industry, so hospitals that excel at Leapfrog deserve the finest recognition we can give them," said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.
Nine hospitals were recognized as top children's hospitals, 56 as top general hospitals, 29 as top teaching Hospitals and 21 as top rural hospitals.
Among states, California by far had the most facilities on the list, with a total of 25 being given awards. Florida had 11 and Illinois had 10. Several states only had one top hospital, and such a distinction wasn’t limited to less populous states—New York’s sole award winner was Catholic Health’s Kenmore Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, named a top general hospital.
Additionally, 21 states had no hospitals on any of the lists.
