U of Mich. Health System added to Great Lakes HIE

University of Michigan Health System (UMHS) has been connected to the Great Lakes Health Information Exchange (GLHIE) to extend the availability of electronic patient health information across lower Michigan and northern Ohio.

The GLHIE enables the exchange of patient health information from across multiple providers using the Axolotl HIE platform from OptumInsight, the Okemos, Mich.-based HIE stated.

GLHIE is a substate HIE, and along with other substate HIEs in Michigan will eventually feed into the Michigan Health Information Network, enabling the exchange of patient data throughout the state. The broader vision for the future is that the National Health Information Network would connect all the state networks, the organization added.
