NCQA to recognize health quality leaders

The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) named the recipients of its 2014 Health Quality Awards, which will be presented formallyon April 2 in Washington, D.C.

The award winners represent leaders who improved healthcare quality by making it more effective, efficient and compassionate by advancing appropriate policy and by conducting research around quality issues, according to the committee.

Award winners include:

  • Don Berwick, MD, MPP, founder of the Institute of Healthcare Improvement and the former administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
  • Carolyn Clancy, MD, assistant deputy undersecretary for health for quality, safety and value at the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the former director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality
  • Ezekiel Emanuel, MD, PhD, a fellow at the Center for American Progress and a professor at the University of Pennsylvania
  • Sandy Praeger, Kansas’ 24th insurance commissioner and the former president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners
  • Peter Lee, executive director of Covered California and former deputy director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation
