Most hospitals will never collect Medicare quality bonuses

 

Fewer than 800 of the 1,700 hospitals that earn Medicare bonuses will actualy receive the money, according to a Kaiser Health News analysis.

The reason: the others are being penalized through Medicare programs that lower payments to hospitals with high readmission rates and or high rates of hospital acquired infections, according to the story.
