HHS seeks comment on payor database

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is asking for public comment on its multi-payor claims database (MPCD) project to receive information regarding the burden estimate, the necessity and utility of the proposed information collection for the proper performance of the agency’s functions and the accuracy of the estimated burden.

Published in the Sept. 23 Federal Register, public comment will be taken 60 days after the published date. The project represents a private/public partnership with the goal of consolidating access to longitudinal data on healthcare services financed by both public and private payors to help facilitate comparative effectiveness research.

The notice stated, "Inclusion of data from multiple sources should allow for adequate coverage of priority patient populations, less common medical conditions, healthcare interventions and geographic areas.”

HHS, according to the request for public comment, estimates a total of 655 burden hours related to the MPCD project.
