Envision Healthcare, AmSurg reach merger agreement to form new $10 billion company
A week after news broke that two multibillion dollar healthcare service providers were in talks to merge, the deal is done. Envision Healthcare Holdings Inc. and AmSurg Corp. reached an agreement to create a new company worth more than $10 billion.
As reported in the Wall Street Journal, the deal is expected to be finalized by the end of the year, provided approval from shareholders and regulators.
The new company, which will be called Envision Healthcare Corp., will be led by William Sanger, Envision chairman and CEO, who will become executive chairman. AmSurg CEO Christopher Holden will keep the same position with Envision Healthcare.
AmSurg, headquartered in Nashville, Tenn., provides outsourced physician services to hospitals and others. It also has about 250 facilities performing procedures that don’t require an overnight stay. Envision, based in Greenwood Village, Colo., also provides emergency care, anesthesiology and surgery, and to ambulance and other medical-transportation services.
