Differences in how hospitals charge payers impact price variations

 

Greater variation exists among private payers versus public ones for different hospital services, according to a study published in the American Journal of Managed Care.

Hospital market competition may contribute to such price variations. “Because payment policies from Medicare ultimately affect private payers, public policy efforts that take into consideration market-based approaches or payment reform may help reduce price variations,” wrote the authors.
