ANDOVER, Mass., April 22, 2015 – (ANIA booth #401/403)—CapsuleTech today announced the release of its Early Warning Scoring System (EWSS) for its SmartLinx Chart Xpress® electronic charting solution, utilizing real-time vital sign data to provide clinical decision support at the bedside. Automated, simple-to-use and customizable, the new EWSS option for Chart Xpress analyzes patient data and identifies patterns consistent with patient deterioration that often occur hours in advance of a critical event. EWSS provides clinicians with timely notification to support early and rapid intervention as well as guidance for appropriate actions to improve outcomes.

SmartLinx's EWSS computerized calculations eliminate manual errors in data analysis. Following vital sign collection, the device immediately displays a patient's general health status score at the bedside, along with appropriate follow-up actions based on that score. Vital sign history and trends are also shown to provide clinical context. The system supports transmission of warnings to alarm or downstream IT systems to aid rapid response and alert multi-disciplinary care teams. Patient data scoring algorithms and follow up protocols are fully configurable to support hospital policies.
EWSS integrates seamlessly with Capsule's SmartLinx Chart Xpress for periodic vital sign collection. Chart Xpress connects to existing spot check monitors and transmits data directly to an electronic medical record (EMR) or other appropriate IT system, eliminating the need for inputting data into an EMR. Compact, mobile Chart Xpress units, with onboard computers and an intuitive interface, easily support existing workflow in busy low acuity wards. They enhance charting accuracy by eliminating human error, simplify workflow, promote greater timeliness of data and enable clinicians to spend more time on direct patient care.
