Baptist Health exploring another South Florida merger

Baptist Health South Florida has announced its considering a merger with Fishermen’s Community Hospital in the Florida Keys, continuing the system’s expansion across the region.

The Florida Keys Keynoter reports the two nonprofits are aimed to become affiliated, adding the 25-bed critical-access hospital in Marathon, Florida, to Baptist’s network and providing increased services.

“It’s becoming harder and harder for stand-alone community hospitals to survive and you need to have the bigger-scale efficiencies that Baptist can provide,” said Fishermen’s board president Peter Chapman.

The move follows another proposed Baptist merger with Bethesda Health.
