Artificial hip implant lawsuits settled for $1B
Stryker Orthopaedics, a producer of artificial hip implants, has reached a settlement with thousands of patient lawsuits involving the now-recalled all-metal devices for about $1 billion, according to The New York Times.
While all-metal implants once were common, they have more recently been abandoned following evidence several years ago that the metal components could rub together and severely damage a patient’s tissue and muscle.
“This settlement program provides patients compensation in a fair, timely and efficient manner,” said William J. Huffnagle, the president of Stryker, according to the story.
