Former Birmingham CFO faces 17 years for $11 million fraud

Terri McGuire Mollica, the former CFO of Birmingham Health Care, has been sentenced to 17 years after pleading guilty to stealing $1.7 million from a center that catered to the homeless, reports AL.com.

Mollica, 50, is currently serving a 28-month sentence on another charge of sending drugs in the mail in an attempt to intimidate a witness of this case. She is also ordered to pay $1.96 million, the amount equivalent to prosecutors claimed she earned through her money laundering activities.

Judge Karon O. Bowdre recalls Mollica as "calculating and vindictive" person that showed no intention of accepting her responsibility, adding "[i]n my 15 years on the bench I have never seen a case like this one."

She spent more than $1.7 million on personal expenses including paying off her mortgage, purchasing two separate vacation homes and depositing funds into multiple accounts. In total, Mollica stole $11 million from both Birmingham Healthcare and Central Alabama Comprehensive Health where she served as CFO for both companies.
