Bernie Sanders had a heart attack, campaign reveals

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), a presidential hopeful with the Democratic party, experienced a heart attack last week, his campaign revealed after reports confirmed Sanders underwent a stent placement procedure.

Sanders, who is 78, was reported to have experienced chest pains last week and was hospitalized in Las Vegas, where he underwent a stent placement procedure to clear a blocked artery. It was not immediately confirmed he had a heart attack until three days later.

Sanders is expected to take some time off from his campaign, canceling many of his upcoming events, but he does plan to attend the Oct. 15 Democratic debate, the NY Times reported.

“After two and a half days in the hospital, I feel great, and after taking a short time off, I look forward to getting back to work,” Sanders stated Oct. 4.
