Oregon REC partners with Allscripts
Oregon Community Health Information Network (OCHIN), a Health Center Controlled Network providing health IT and service to community-based clinics, has partnered with Allscripts to resell Allscripts’ EHR and Practice Management system to physicians in that state.
In 2010, the federal government named OCHIN to develop Oregon's Health Information Technology Extension Center (O-HITEC). The regional extension center (REC) is responsible for helping more than 3,000 Oregon primary care providers install certified EHR systems and meaningfully use them.
The OCHIN network of community clinics started in Oregon more than a decade ago and today is in seven states.
St. Charles Health System, a Bend, Ore., private nonprofit corporation that operates four hospitals with an active medical staff of 350 physicians, recently selected Allscripts to provide its EHR and practice management for its employed and affiliated physicians. St. Charles will receive O-HITEC support in its efforts to meet meaningful use requirements, according to Allscripts of Chicago.
Eventually, the EHR data will be pulled into a health information exchange (HIE), which will allow the health system's hospitals and physicians to exchange health information, including test results and other clinical information. It also will allow for data aggregation and analysis.
Independent physicians with referring privileges to St. Charles facilities will have a portion of the cost of the Allscripts system underwritten by the health system.
