NTOCC forms health IT work group

The National Transitions of Care Coalition (NTOCC) has formed a Health IT Work Group with a focus on national efforts to develop EMRs, health IT exchange and promote interoperability to enhance patient care.

NTOCC was founded in 2006 by the Case Management Society of America (CMSA) and sanofi-aventis U.S. to define solutions addressing those gaps that impact safety and quality of care for transitioning patients, particularly seniors.

The work group’s activities will include undertaking an assessment of barriers and gaps in health IT related to transitions of care, and developing recommendations on how to overcome the barriers and bridge the gaps.

“With health IT now so closely linked to health reform, we see it as a critical component to achieving a more efficient healthcare system and equally important in facilitating smoother transitions in care that ultimately lead to better patient outcomes,” said Cheri Lattimer, NTOCC project director.

Members of the work group include Leah Binder, CEO of the Leapfrog Group; H. Edward Davidson, PharmD, assistant professor of clinical internal medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School; David Dorr, assistant professor at Oregon Health & Science University; Jean Paul Gagnon, PhD, senior director of U.S. policy & strategic advocacy at sanofi-aventis U.S.; Eva Powell, director of health IT project of the National Partnership for Women & Families; William M. Russell, vice president of clinical information at Erickson Retirement Communities; Annette Schmidt, director of external affairs at sanofi-aventis U.S.; and Charles Smith, chief medical officer at CIGNA.
