HIMSS EHR Association elects leaders to tackle industry challenges
The HIMSS Electronic Health Record Association (EHR Association), a collaboration of 42 EHR suppliers, announced new leadership for the coming year following its annual elections in June.
This year’s election results saw the return of several executive committee members, as well as the addition of new members, maintaining the balance of representation from companies that serve healthcare enterprises with both ambulatory and acute care EHRs and companies that focus on the ambulatory market.
Carl D. Dvorak, executive vice president of Epic, and Charles W. Jarvis, vice president of healthcare services and government relations for NextGen Healthcare, have been re-elected to the positions of chair and vice chair, respectively. Dvorak was a founding member of the EHR Association, now in its seventh year, and served on the executive committee from 2004 to 2006. After being re-elected to the executive committee in 2009, he was elected chair in 2010.
Jarvis was elected vice chair in 2008, was first elected to the executive committee in 2007 and has also served as chair of the communications workgroup, government initiatives workgroup, and the ambulatory special interest group. He currently leads the collaboration between the EHR Association and 62 regional extension centers. Both began their second term on July 1.
“This year will continue the momentum we’ve seen since 2009 when the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was passed,” Dvorak says.
Joining the executive committee for a two-year term is Jason Colquitt, executive director of research services at Greenway Medical Technologies. Leigh Burchell, vice president of government affairs and public policy at Allscripts and chair of the EHR Association’s public policy leadership workgroup, was also elected to a one-year term to complete the second year of a two-year term vacated by a former colleague. Pamela Chapman, director of clinical product management for e-MDs and vice chair of the association’s certification workgroup, was re-elected to the executive committee for a two-year term.
Returning to the executive committee to complete the second year of a two-year term are Rick Reeves, senior manager, product development at CPSI, who has served as certification workgroup chair and on the executive committee since 2008; and Mickey McGlynn, senior director, solutions development strategy and operations at Siemens, who served as chair of the public policy leadership workgroup from 2008 until June 2011.
Mark Segal, PhD, vice president, government and industry affairs, GE Healthcare IT, vice chair emeritus, having served from 2009 through 2010, was re-elected to a two-year term on the executive committee. He currently is vice chair of the public policy leadership workgroup. Also, serving in ex-officio positions are Justin Barnes, vice president of marketing, industry and government affairs for Greenway Medical Technologies and chair emeritus of the association, having served from 2008 through 2010; and Charlene Underwood, senior director of government and industry affairs for Siemens Healthcare and chair emeritus of the EHR Association, having served from 2004 until 2006.
