HIMSS Analytics EMRAM could travel across the pond

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society’s (HIMSS) Analytics EMR Adoption Model (EMRAM) is seeking to get the European treatment. Healthcare organizations BCS and HIMSS have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on a project to introduce the adoption model to the U.K.

EMRAM is an eight-stage model (Stages 0 to 7) which classifies an institution’s level of IT adoption. Currently, 68 Stage 7 hospitals have been identified globally. A Stage 7 hospital has a fully digitized, virtually paperless environment with a range of interoperability and data exchange capabilities with other organizations.

BCS will work with HIMSS Analytics Europe and a number of organizations to test the EMRAM model for suitability in the U.K. and assist with any modifications that are required, the Chicago-based HIMSS stated. A number of hospitals covering the acute and mental health sectors are being recruited to assist. BCS Health and HIMSS Analytics Europe are establishing a steering committee to work on the project, the organization added.
