CIO survey finds problems with info retrieval from EHRs
Poor usability, particularly related to entering and accessing data efficiently is a top complaint chief information officers have about EHRs, according to a survey by Frost & Sullivan.
The survey was conducted in partnership with the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives and polled CIOs at mid- and large-sized community hospitals between March and May.
Survey participants noted search-related problems with EHRs including slow response times and a lack of precise query results. Those problems could lead to significant loss of productivity among end-users and potential risks to patient safety.
These problems with information retrieval are due to poor EHR usability, not a lack of user training.
