Cerner breaks ground on new campus, promises 16,000 jobs

EHR powerhouse Cerner has broken ground on a new campus and promises 16,000 new jobs over the next decade.

Cerner's $4.45 billion project, Trails Campus, is in Kansas City, Mo., and is the largest economic development project in the state's history. The company plans to redevelop more than 290 acress in south Kansas City--part of its plan to meet the requirements of having its solutions licensed by more than 14,000 facilities worldwide.

The development comes after the August announcement that Cerner will buy Siemen's health IT unit for $1.3 billion.

"Our new Trails Campus is an investment in the hometown Cerner planted roots in 35 years ago and a hub for innovation as we continue to fulfill our mission to improve health and care both globally and here in the Kansas City region," said Cerner President Zane Burke in a release.
