CCHIT: Confident on accreditation chances after ONC releases NPRM

The Certification Commission for Health IT (CCHIT) is confident about the healthcare organization’s prospects of becoming accredited after reviewing the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) regarding certifying bodies of EHR certification, according to Alisa Ray, executive director of CCHIT.

“[The] release of the Certification NPRM is an important step that will reduce the uncertainty that the healthcare community has experienced while awaiting this additional information,” wrote Ray.

Ray cited the healthcare organization’s four years of experience testing and certifying EHRs while adapting its testing to the latest Federal standards. CCHIT benchmarks against best practices for certifying bodies, including the International Organization for Standardization accreditation standards, she said.

“We plan to file an application with the [Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT] as soon as they are ready to accept them,” Ray said.
