Ingenix continues acquisition spree with Axolotl

Ingenix, a subsidiary of payor UnitedHealth Group, is acquiring HIE service provider Axolotl, for an undisclosed amount. The Axolotl management team will remain in place and lead Ingenix’ efforts in healthcare community connectivity, according to Ingenix.

Axolotl, based in San Jose, Calif., develops and implements HIE systems for states, communities, hospitals and healthcare organizations. The Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Ingenix provides health IT systems and consulting to physicians, hospitals, state agencies, federal government agencies and healthcare payors. Both companies claim to offer technologies that are interoperable with multiple health systems.

Terms of the agreement were not announced.

This acquistion for Ingenix marks its third takeover of the summer--first with high-acuity IT services developer Picis in late July, and later with medical necessity compliance firm Executive Health Resources in early August.
