Illinois health system taps Axolotl to launch HIE

Axolotl and Centegra Health System, a healthcare provider serving McHenry and Woodstock, Ill., have announced that Centegra has chosen Axolotl to provide health information exchange (HIE) capabilities for the Centegra Physician Network, a health IT-sharing program that creates the region’s first HIE.

The program provides local physicians with access to EHR and practice management systems, according to Axolotl, a HIE systems provider, based in San Jose, Calif.

The Centegra Physician Network, which employs nearly 4,000 health professionals, will use Axolotl's Elysium Exchange platform to allow participating physicians and hospitals to share and exchange medical information and patient histories via an electronic network.

The company said physicians can communicate from their EMR and exchange information without the use of a drop box, agent or any specialized hardware device in their practice—sharing referrals, laboratory results, radiology reports and other patient data. Physicians not on an EMR can participate in the Centegra Physician Network using Axolotl's Elysium 9 ambulatory EHR.
