Colorado REC signs 800 providers
The Colorado Regional Extension Center (CO-REC) has inked its 800th provider letter of agreement and is more than one-third of the way toward reaching its goal of signing a total of 2,295 primary care providers to receive support implementing and using EHRs.
CO-REC is an initiative of seven organizations led by CORHIO (Colorado Regional Health Information Organization). According to the Denver-based CORHIO, CO-REC reached the 800-provider milestone in less than three months, exceeding the organization's goal to sign up 600 providers in six months.
The organization stated it is currently pursuing a strategy to support practices and small, rural hospitals to achieve meaningful use by providing services that help providers:

- Select, implement and meaningfully use EHRs;
- Negotiate purchases of and pricing for EHRs;
- Optimize practice workflow;
- Understand and negotiate EHR contract language regarding health information exchange interfaces; and
- Protect the integrity, privacy and security of patients' health records.
