California facility strikes deal with Medicity to build HIE

Hoag Memorial Presbyterian Hospital in Newport Beach, Calif., has selected Medicity as its partner to build a community-wide health information exchange (HIE).

Hoag Hospital will deploy Medicity’s technology suite – including ProAccess Community, MediTrust Cloud Services and the Novo Grid – to provide an EHR that includes both clinical and administrative data for its physician population, health plans, business partners and patients, according to the Salt Lake City-based company.

Hoag Hospital and Medicity will first focus on automating healthcare transactions such as ordering and resulting tests, referring patients between providers and coordinating information among care teams.

As participants come online and the HIE expands, the HIE infrastructure will scale up to provide more services to the community, Medicity stated. The HIE will also include patient engagement, allowing for integration with personal health record applications such as Google Health and Microsoft HealthVault.
